Sweden elopement

Evenings that refuse to end. Still lakes. Forests past the horizon.

A whole country of quiet, and nobody is using it

Sweden is the elopement destination almost nobody thinks of, and that is exactly its power. Two thirds of the country is forest. The lakes number in the tens of thousands, most of them with nobody on their shores. In summer the light lasts nearly all night. In winter the snow and the low sun turn the whole country blue and gold.

An elopement here can unfold on a lake dock at ten in the evening, still in daylight. In a clearing among the pines, with the air full of green. On the Stockholm archipelago, where the city dissolves into thousands of small islands and the Baltic goes calm as glass.

Sweden also gives you a gift few countries can. Allemansrätten, the right to roam, means the land is open to those who treat it with respect. Your ceremony can happen where the place itself tells you to stop walking.

I am Yanick Lesperance, elopement photographer and filmmaker based in Eastern Canada, and I have worked in Sweden with a camera in my hands. I know its light and its quiet. If your hearts point north in Europe, I will meet you there and document the whole story. You get me. Nothing less. Nobody else.

FAQ

Questions about eloping in Sweden

Where in Sweden can we elope?

On the shores of the great lakes, in forest clearings almost anywhere in the country, on the islands of the Stockholm archipelago, or up in the mountains of the north. Sweden is one of the most open landscapes in Europe for a small wedding.

What is the best season for a Sweden elopement?

June and July for the midnight light and warm lakes. September for gold forests and empty trails. Winter for snow, low sun and, in the north, the aurora.

Can foreigners marry legally in Sweden?

Yes, with the right paperwork prepared ahead, including a certificate of no impediment from your home country. Many couples sign the legal papers at home and hold the real ceremony in the wild. I will point you to the right steps.

Why choose Sweden over more famous destinations?

Because it is empty, honest and stunning, and almost no one is doing it. No crowds at the waterfall. No queue at the viewpoint. Just the lake, the forest, and the two of you.

Do you travel from Canada to Sweden for elopements?

Yes. I am based in Eastern Canada and I document elopements across Europe. Sweden is one of the journeys I make gladly, and I take a small number of these stories each year.
